ABOUT US

Professional Mediators of Alaska is a nonprofit organization formed in 2015 to support the mediation profession and encourage its use in Alaska as an alternative form of conflict resolution.

The goals and objectives of Professional Mediators of Alaska are to:

Educate the public about the benefits of mediation for the resolution of family, business, and community conflicts

Provide ongoing training opportunities for professional mediators

Promote the profession of mediation

Encourage collaboration among mediators and develop a statewide network of professional mediators

Promote adherence to standards of practice among professional mediators

Ethics and Professional Responsibility

All professional members of the association have committed to adhere to the Model Standards of Conduct for Mediators, adopted by the American Arbitration Association, the American Bar Association, and the Association for Conflict Resolution in September 2005.

Self Certification Requirements

Mediators listed in this directory have self-certified that they:

  1. Have completed a concentrated 40-hour course in mediation.
  2. Completed an additional 5 hours of mediation-specific training in the previous year.
  3. Conducted a minimum of 6 mediations in the last year (volunteer mediations included).
  4. Agree to abide by the Model Standards of Conduct for Mediators, endorsed by the American Arbitration Association, the American Bar Association, and the Association for Conflict Resolution. 
  5. Currently carry professional liability insurance for their work as a mediator.
  6. Agree to hold harmless and indemnify Professional Mediators of Alaska from any claim or cause of action arising out of their work as a mediator.
